Animal Testing

What would one fell if they were being tested and experimented till death just for other people’s health and wellness? Well, let’s find out, about 26 million animals every year have gone through this process. They are tested for commercials and also for medication and sometimes are used to test the toxicity of the medications. In Procon.com it says that animal testing is cruel and inhumane, alternative testing methods now exist that can replace the need for animals, and most experiments involving animals are flawed, wasting lives of animals in the process.

First, animal testing is cruel and inhumane. According to Procon.org, “The Draize eye test, used by cosmetics companies to evaluate irritation caused by shampoos and other products, involves rabbits being incapacitated in stocks with their eyelids held open by clips, sometimes for multiple days, so they cannot blink away the products being tested.” This means that when the tests go on they cause the animals to sometimes suffer during these experiments. For example, animals are forced to do things like eat or not to eat and are also sometimes hurt to see the healing process. Furthermore, The U.S. Department of Agriculture said that about 71,370 animals are suffering and hurt during the testing and are not given anything to help relieve the pain.

Second, there are different testing methods that exist that can indeed replace the use of animals. According to Procon.org, ” In vitro (in glass) testing, such as studying cell cultures in a petri dish, can produce more relevant results than animal testing because human cells can be used.” This means that having animals suffer during the tests is not the only way to test things and some ways can actually be better than animal testing. For example, people can be used in the testing even though they might suffer we get better results of the tests than animals. Furthermore, we can also use computer models that can actually predict the toxicity of the substance.

Lastly, most of the experiments are always flawed, wasting the lives of the animals subjects. According to Procon.org, “A 2017 study found further flaws in animal studies including incorrect data interpretation, unforeseen technical issues, incorrectly constituted (or absent) control groups, selective data reporting, inadequate or varying software systems, and blatant fraud”. What this means is that when the experiments are going on sometimes something is not right and can take the life of the subject. For example, some animals are also sacrificed in these experiments one being lethal dose 50 which is seeing what chemicals will kill around 50% of the animals that are being used. Furthermore, some of the things that they give to the animals like drugs are not safe for the animals and some have caused heart attacks and also sudden cardiac deaths.

In conclusion, animals are being used for tests or commercials. Over 26 million animals are used every year for testing items like mediation. They are, however, suffering while they go on and are used till they die. They are not released and animal testing has been going back to 500 BC. Animals testing should not be allowed because it is cruel and inhumane, there are many different ways to that exist other than using animals, and some of the experiments are flawed taking the life the of animals.

Social Media’s Harm

The new movie “It” is a scary movie about a clown coming every 27 years taking children. Even though it could be good it contains a lot of violence. People get stabbed, beaten, teens use guns, strong language, and more. This is one of the ways that the social network has been passing through people’s lives almost every day. Many people might think that social media is fine but it is actually bad for you. Social media can cause people spend less time face-to-face with people, social media users are vulnerable to security attacks such as hacking, identity theft, and viruses, and the use of social media is correlated with personality and brain disorders.

First, social media can cause people to have less face-to-face time with other people. According to ProCon.org, “32% reported using social media or texting during meals (47% of 18-34-year olds) instead of talking with family and friends.” This means that people are now using the social network to talk with people and that is causing people to spend less time with their friends and family. For example, now that people have been getting more used to using their phones to text they think that there is no need to go and see the person. Furthermore, the numbers of people actually seeing each other face-to-face are decreasing in numbers by the years go on.

Second, users are vulnerable to people to security attacks one like identity theft. According to ProCon.org, “Social media sites do not scan messages for viruses or phishing scams, leading to large-scale problems.” This means that social media had made it easier for people to access someone’s personal information. For example, many people are sharing names and other things like date of birth and all of that. Furthermore, all of these things are part of identity theft causing to people to lose some of their valuables like credit cards and many other things.

Third, social media interacts with people’s personality and also brain disorders. According to ProCon.org, “children who spend over three hours on social media on a normal school day reportedly suffer from mental health difficulties”. This means that we are using social media way too long and this is causing many some people gain disorders. For example, many people have had effects like personality traits and also increased depression. Furthermore, 41% of children that use social media almost every day and for an extended period of time while the 21% that have not been using social media for that long don’t go through them.

Others may say that social media has a good impact in society other than a bad one. As an example, in ProCon.org social media is good for the economy. According to ProCon.org, “A McKinsey Global Institute study projected that the communication and collaboration from social media added between $900 billion and $1.3 trillion.” This means that now that we have had upgrades in technology then we have been able to do more things that we were able to back then causing the production of money to go up allot. For example, many websites like Facebook and Snapchat took part of this and also much more not just these bringing it up by billions of dollars. To elaborate on this, social media can always make a good impact on society if you use it in the way you are supposed to because it can harm some people’s productivity.

In conclusion, social media has been going through people’s lives almost every day making it almost a normal thing. There are many examples of these this like movies or phones and many other things all around us like cars. These things are able to help our lives in many ways but even though it is almost normal already it still causes harm to many people all around the world. First, social media can make people become less social, also people are exposed to security attacks and can lose many things, lastly, it can cause many problems and also disorders.
